JAMMU, Aug 12: Swami Mirzakak Trust Hangalgund, Kokernag in Anantnag district has taken serious exception of grabbing of land belonging to Shrine of Hangla Devi and Swami Parkak Ji in the village by some unscrupulous elements and land mafia who have converted the same into a Taxi cum sumo stand.
The Committee, while taking serious exception to the increasing highhandedness of land mafia in the village after the mass exodus of minority Pandits from the Valley said that an ancient shrine of Hangla Devi on three Kanals of land with an four feet long idol of Goddess was lying at that place but some unscrupulous elements have grabbed the land and converted it into a Taxi stand which has hurt the sentiments of the minority community.
They said that authorities instead of protecting the land have given a free hand to such people which is a cause of concern.
The Trust representatives including its president, and general secretary, called on District Development Commissioner, Anantnag and requested him that the shrine be immediately restored to the Hindu minority of the village.
They said the name of village Hangalgund has been derived from the name of Hangla Devi and it is unfortunate that some vested elements are trying to distort the history with their actions. They also demanded action against the land grabbers and restoration of the other land of minority Hindus encroached by the mafia in the village.
The delegation said that the issue was taken up by them to SDM Kokernag but to no avail.
