Comprehensive land use policy on anvil: Govt

SRINAGAR: Government today said that it will soon constitute a State Revenue and Land Use Board for bringing a comprehensive land use policy in the State.

Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari, while replying to a question of Member Ali Mohammad Dar in Legislative Council, said there are laws for preventing conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes and the Government is contemplating amendments in implementation as well as accountability in the system.

He said in case of constructions on Gair mumkin khad lands, which is more prevalent in Jammu Division, a committee under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Jammu has been constituted to submit a detailed report in the matter.

The Minister said conversion of Aabi Awal land for non-agricultural purposes is illegal and constructions on such land is  permitted only by the competent authority in terms of Section 133-A of Land Revenue Act. (AGENCIES)
