SRINAGAR: As many as 545 industrial units have been set up by non-State subjects in Jammu and Kashmir, where a number of incentives were available for entrepreneurs.
However, the new industrial policy under which land can be provided to outsiders on lease for establishing industries in the Jammu and Kashmir is strongly opposed by separatists who alleged that it was to change the demography of the Muslim majority State.
Replying to a question by Ajatshatru Singh in the Legislative Council here today Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash said that 545 industrial units have been established in the State by outsiders. Out of these 47 are in Kashmir division and 498 in Jammu division, he informed the House.
However, he said there are 31,842 industrial units which have been set up by State subjects in the state. Out of these 19,960 units are in Kashmir while 11,882 in Jammu. He said there are various incentives provided by the Central and State Governments to promote local entrepreneurs.
The reply said under State Industrial Policy, 2016 announced by the Government on March 15 when there was Governor’s rule a number of incentives could have been availed. These included 30 per cent Capital Investment Subsidy, 100 subsidy on Diesel Generator Set, 100 per cent subsidy on Testing Lab Equipments, 60 per cent subsidy on Pollution Control Devices (PCD), 3 to 5 per cent Interest Subsidy on Working capital, 50 per cent Subsidy on expenditure incurred on Green and Environment Protection initiatives.
