Comprehensive DDMP to be prepared at Poonch

POONCH, Feb 4: The Deputy Commissioner Poonch, M H Malik today convened a meeting of various sectoral officers and representatives of Sphere India for the preparation of District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP).
As discussed in the meeting, to  pre-define role and responsibilities of each stakeholder in all the phases of disaster management and to ensure coordination among various stakeholders during pre and post disaster, Sphere India, a National Coalition of Humanitarian Agencies in India whose members include key nodal agencies from Govt. of India, UN Agencies, INGOs, NGO Networks and National NGOs , has been tasked with the responsibility of preparing DDMP with the help of district administration and participation of key stakeholders,.
Mr. Malik instructed all the sectoral officers to extend full cooperation to the team of Sphere India and asked Sphere India’s representatives to ensure that the data collection is scientific and credible. Stressing the role of community in disaster management, he advised them to factor in the various misleading stereotypes and inter cultural variations while gathering data through scheduled structured and un-structured interactions with various stakeholders.
DDMP besides suggesting measures to reduce risk in case of floods, earthquakes and other disasters in seismically and ecologically sensitive district will also identify and focus on vulnerable groups. With a view to capacity building, Sphere India will hold extensive discussion with different line departments in the district to augment their resources.
Shahid Iqbal, HQA to Deputy Commissioner has been designated as nodal officer for coordinating the entire process.
Meanwhile, a team of World Bank officers visited the district today to assess the losses suffered in the district during September 2014 floods and to suggest appropriate restoration/reconstruction measures and comprehensive protection plan strategy to prevent loss to life and property in future.
