JAMMU, Aug 24: Department of CTVS, Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu today organized a day long workshop on Complex Aortic Aneurysm Surgery, where in two patients of complex aortic aneurysm were operated upon one by open surgery technique called Aneurysmoraphy and the other by Endovascular technique called EVAR.

Dr VS Bedi, Chairman, Vascular Surgery and Dr Ajay Yadav, Senior Consultant both from Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi were the visiting faculty for the workshop. The local faculty included Dr Gurjit Singh, Dr Noor Ali, Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, Dr Ishtiaq Mir, Dr Arvind Kohli, Dr Mohit Arora and Dr Vivek Gandotra along with staff of CTVS and Cath lab. Dr Puja Vimesh and team organized the anesthesia and post operative care of the patients.
The workshop was conducted under patronage of GMC Principal, Dr Zahid Geelani and logistic support of Medical Superintendent, SSH Jammu, Dr AD Singh.
Workshop convenor, Dr VS Bedi said that workshops like these go a long way in strengthening centres like GMC Jammu for conducting these advanced procedures in future. Endovascular surgery has revolutionized the management of aneurysms though the time tested open surgery is required in certain number of cases.
Workshop coordinator, Dr Arvind Kohli said that Aortic Aneurysm procedures were done successfully and in addition to these cases, two other cases were done using endovascular techniques including Left iliac angioplasty and Sup femoral artery occlusion, in needy patients.
The workshop shall go a long way in establishing these procedures at SSH Jammu keeping in view a steady increase in the number of patients with vascular disease in general and aneurysms in particular, he added.
