Complete shutdown observed in Ramban

RAMBAN, Jan 11: A complete shutdown was observed after Forest Department barricaded a cremation ground here today.
As per reports, various Hindu Organizations held protest here today after Forest Department barricaded a lone cremation ground at Kow Bagh area here. Shopkeepers also shut their business establishments over this action of Forest Department.
“The land where the cremation ground is, belongs to Forest Department”, Forest Department officials claimed.
A large number of people assembled at T Chowk and held protest against the District Administration. They also raised the slogans against the administration.
The protestors said that they are performing last rites of their near and dear ones in this cremation ground at Kow Bagh since long. “We don’t allow the Forest Department to barricade the cremation ground”, they added.
Officials from District Administration rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protestors but failed.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Ramban and SSP Ramban reached the spot and assured the protesting people of redressing their issue.
The barricades were removed from the cremation ground on the direction of the DC Ramban.
In the evening, Hindu Organizations submitted a resolution to the District Administration demanding repair of all the cremation grounds in and around Ramban town. District Administration assured to do the needful in couple of days.
