JAMMU, Jan 14: Senior Congress leader and AICC Member, Mohinder Bhardwaj has expressed concern over the apathy of the authorities concerned towards crop losses suffered by the farmers of R.S Pura, Bishnah area and other parts of Jammu division.
Addressing a press conference here today Bhardwaj said that recent heavy rains and windstorms have spoiled the paddy crop in R.S Pura and its adjoining areas thereby putting the poor farmers to losses.
He also said that same is the fate of farmers of Pahari areas of Jammu region, which is an important contributor to horticulture sector of the region, where too farmers suffered heavy losses.
“It is now the duty of the Government to compensate poor farmers as they have no other source of income,” Bhardwaj told reporters adding that the negligent attitude of the concerned authorities in this regard may force the poor farmers to come on roads.
The Congress leader also informed that condition of roads in border areas of Bishnah etc is very bad and these roads need immediate repairs.
He further demanded de-silting of Ranbir Canal till its tail end so that the farmers may get sufficient water for irrigating their fields in coming days.
Bhardwaj also informed that the minimum support price for paddy crop by the concerned authorities is very less and it should be hiked.
