Community protests seeking arrest of accused

ANANTNAG, Aug 1:  Agitated over alleged attempt of kidnapping of two Sikh girls, people of the community in Kashmir held a strong protest demonstration at Mattan, here today.
Shouting slogans for justice   and demanding immediate arrest of the accused persons, the protesting Sikh community members blocked the National Highway and tried to take out a march towards Anantnag.
The protesting Sikhs, including females also, were soon joined by more groups of the community members from Chattisingh Pora, Anantnag, Badgam, Tral and Pulwama.  They blocked the National Highway and did not allow any vehicle to pass.
The protesters also tried to march towards Anantnag but they were stopped by Policemen, deployed there. Later, SSP Anantnag personally reached the spot and sought to pacify them by assuring that necessary action would be taken in the incident as an FIR has also been registered in this connection at Police Station Mattan.
On assurance of the SSP, the protesting people dispersed off with an ultimatum that if the accused are not arrest by 11 am tomorrow, massive demonstration would be held and the administration will be responsible for the same.
According to the protesting people, two Sikh girls of class 9th were allegedly kidnapped after making them unconscious by some youth from the majority community. They took the girls to Srinagar where one of the victims managed to telephonically contact her father who along with his community members rescued the victims while the accused managed to flee from the spot.
Family members of the victim girls have also lodged a complaint in this regard at Police Station Mattan but no arrest was made till filing of the report.
