Committee to oversee restoration of water bodies in Ladakh

LEH, June 17: For conservation and restoration of water bodies and monitoring rain water harvesting related activities in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the UT Administration has accorded sanction to the constitution of an Oversight Committee.
The committee has been constituted in compliance to the direction of NGR, passed in OA No: 325/2015 titled Sarvadaman Singh Oberoi versus Union of India and others. It shall assess, review and coordinate the implementation of directions of NGT and formulate policies for overall regulation of water bodies in the UT of Ladakh.
Headed by Advisor to the Lt Governor Ladakh, the committee shall act as an overarching body and oversee the effective implementation of directions of NGT by various departments concerned in implementing the action plans in Union Territory of Ladakh.
Under the aegis of the committee, the restoration and conservation works of water bodies and rain water harvesting related activities shall be carried forth based on the proposition formulated and recommended by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in compliance to the NGT orders.
The committee shall meet at regular intervals to identify and prioritize the restoration and conservation related works of water bodies in UT of Ladakh. In co-ordination with State Water Resources Regulatory Authority (SWRRA), the committee shall ensure submission of compliance report to the orders of NGT.
