College teachers demand implementation of new UGC Regulations

JAMMU, Dec 29: A meeting of the newly constituted presidium of College Teachers Association of Jammu was convened by Dr Rakesh Jasrotia, the President CTA- Jammu, to highlight various issues and demands of the College teachers.
The presidium appealed to K K Sharma, Advisor to Lt Governor, for implementation of the UGC Regulations, notified on July 18, 2018 for the various recruitment and Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) Rules keeping in view the interests of the college teachers. At present, the college teachers in J&K are governed by the SRO 124 issued by the Higher Education Department, Govt of J&K on April 21, 2014 as per UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and Other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of standard in Higher Education, 2010.
The Association demanded implementation of that the new UGC regulations providing for increments for higher qualifications of PhD and M Phil and other Professional courses, promotion to the post of Professor from Associate Professor in the Colleges, post of Vice Principal to look after the affairs of the College in the absence of Principal, probation period of one year only instead of two years, age of superannuation etc.
