Coldest night of season in Valley, mercury dips at several places

Srinagar, Dec 8: Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season as the mercury dipped at most places across Kashmir.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 3.7 degree Celsius, down by over a degree from previous night’s minus 2.6 degree Celsius. This is the lowest night temperature in the city so far this season.
The minimum temperature across Kashmir division, except the ski-resort of Gulmarg, continued to hover below the freezing point owing to continuous dry weather in the State which is expected to end this weekend.
Kupwara, in North Kashmir, was the coldest recorded place in the State as the mercury settled at the low of minus 4.5 degree Celsius compared to minus 3.3 degree Celsius yesterday.
Pahalgam in South Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.8 degree Celsius against yesterday’s minus 3 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg in North Kashmir was the only place where night temperature was recorded above freezing point at 1.4 degree Celsius.
Qazigund town in South Kashmir registered a minimum of minus 3 degree Celsius, while nearby Kokernag town recorded the low of minus 2.2 degree Celsius.
The night temperature in Leh settled at a low of minus 10.2 degree Celsius, an increase of 1.9 degree from previous night’s minus 8.3 degree Celsius.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 10.4 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time of the year is 11 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 13.8 degree Celsius, Kupwara 12.5 degree Celsius, Kokernag 11.7 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 11.6 and  Leh 12 degree Celsius.
The MeT office forecast rains in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches for at least two days from Sunday.
