Cold wave grips Kashmir, Srinagar freezes at -3.2

Srinagar, Dec 18: Kashmir valley is in the grip of cold wave after temperatures across the region plummeted today with Srinagar recording minimum of minus 3.2 degree Celsius.
Srinagar city recorded the minimum temperature of minus 3.2 degree Celsius, a decrease of over two degrees from the previous night of minus 0.6 degree Celsius. As Sun came out in the morning it gave some relief from intense cold with the maximum temperature settling at 9.3 degree Celsius.
The mercury in Qazigund, decreased by two notches from the previous nights low of minus 3.3 degree Celsius, to settle at a low of minus 1.3 degree Celsius. However, the day temperature settled at 8.6 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam in South Kashmir registered a low temperature of minus 7.7 degree Celsius, a decrease of five degrees from the previous nights minus 2.7 degree Celsius. The day temperature of the place was recorded at 7.2 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Kupwara in North Kashmir also went down by over two degrees to settle at a low of minus 3.9 degree Celsius compared to the previous nights minus 1.5 degree Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 9.5 degree Celsius.
Kokernag town in South Kashmir registered the minimum temperature of minus 2.9 degree Celsius as against minus 1.9 degree Celsius of the previous night. The day temperature, however, settled at 6.8 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded a low temperature of minus 10.4 degree Celsius. The resort had registered a low of minus 10.2 degree Celsius the previous night minus 0.5 degree Celsius.
Leh witnessed a slight decrease in the night temperature as the mercury there settled at minus 12.9 degree Celsius compared to the previous nights of minus 12.6 degrees Celsius. Leh was the coldest recorded place in the State where the day temperature settled at minus 1.3 degree Celsius.
Kargil town was the only recorded place in the State where the night temperature increased. Kargil recorded a low of minus 7.4 degrees Celsius, an increase of nearly seven degrees from the previous nights minus 14.2 degrees Celsius. The day temperature also rose by several notches to settle at 1.2 degree Celsius.
The MeT Department has said there are chances of isolated rains over two days from tomorrow. It said the weather is likely to remain mainly dry for a few days after Sunday.
