JAMMU, Dec 10: “Pryaas-Nami Kavit: Kala Pakkh”, a Dogri book by Col Raaz Manawari on literary criticism on Dogri Ghazal was released at an impressive function organized by Dogri Sanstha at KL Saigal Hall, here today.
A galaxy of intellectuals and writers of Dogri, Urdu, Punjabi and Kashmiri languages were present on the occasion. The function was presided over by Dr Lalit Magotra, noted writer, intellectual and convener, Sahitya Akademi’s Advisory Board for Dogri, while Dr Veena Gupta, prominent linguist and Critic was present as special guest.
It is first book of its kind dealing exclusively in the form of Ghazal including the system of meter, urooz, behar, rukun, kafia, radeef and other grammatical aspects of Ghazal.
In his presidential address, Dr Lalit Magotra said it is a matter of great contentment that a book is made available by Col Raaz Manawari to guide the young poets. Congratulating the writer, he said that the book deals in details with the structural requirements and technical aspects of ghazal.
A detailed critical review on the book was also presented by Dr Veena Gupta with special references to the tonal qualities of Dogri language that poses a challenge to the Dogri Ghazal writers.
Col Manawari shared his views on the form and structure of Dogri Ghazal and said that he devoted many years and read hundreds of books before preparing the script of this book. He impressed upon the Ghazal writers to maintain the technicalities of this most beautiful form of poetry.
