BASOHLI, Sept 26: District Development Council (DDC) Kathua, chairman, Col (retd) Mahan Singh kick-started work of construction of one Kilometre long road in Ward No: 6 in Plakh Panchayat here today.
The traditional ritual was conducted by the DDC Chairman in presence of Sarpanch Pritam Singh, Capt (retd) Harnam Singh, Hoshiar Singh, Panchayat members and villagers of the area. The ancillary works kick started earth work, drainage and construction of retaining walls along this one Km stretch road in Mohalla Mann Badyal.
It is pertinent to mention here that this road project has been sanctioned under the Capex budget worth Rs. 15.82 lakh and will benefit more than 100 families living in this area and its outskirts.
While addressing the gathering, Col Mahan Singh, who himself hails from Plakh Panchayat of Basohli, said that the completion of this road project will definitely lead to transformation of the area as the road connectivity is the sin qua non for the progress and prosperity of any area and its people. He said that overall development is the priority of the Union Government especially the remote and far flung areas. He specially complimented Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for empowering people of Jammu & Kashmir by implementing 73rd amendment of Constitution and constituting three tier PRI system in the U.T. that has resulted in pacing up the developmental activities and people’s empowerment.
Col Mahan Singh said that a new era of development has begun in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and the people are now witnessing exceptional developmental activities in village Panchayats and Mohallas in every nook and corner of the country and this will continue in the coming time. He said while the developmental activities are going on non-stop at the same time now there is a need to emphasize on quality work besides timely completion of the projects by the concerned agencies.
