Srinagar, Sept 26: Two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) who were involved in the killing of BJP leaders were shot dead in an encounter with the security forces in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district today.
Police said that Bandipora police received an input on the evening of 25th September about the presence of militants in the general area of Watrina Bandipora.
Police, 14 RR of Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area against the two hiding militants this morning.
Police said that frequent appeals were made to the militants to surrender but they refused to do so leading to an encounter.
Both the militants were killed in the encounter and have been identified as Abid Rashid Dar alias Haqani and Azad Ahmed Shah.
Abid Rashid Dar was a Pakistan trained militant who had crossed over the Wagah Border in April 2018 and had infiltrated back in 2019. Police said that he was involved in local militant actions and had been tasked with recruitment and running the ranks of Lashkar in North Kashmir.
“Abid Rashid Dar, Azad Ahmed Shah, foreign militant Usman and Sajad alias Haider were involved in the killing of BJP leader Waseem Bari and his family. Usman and Sajad were eliminated in Kreeri on 17-09-2021. The remaining militants involved in the killing were eliminated today. With this the investigation of case FIR No 74/2019 of Police Station Bandipora stands closed. However, both militants were charge sheeted in that case earlier”, police said.

Two AK 47 rifles, one pistol and other incriminating material were seized. FIR has been lodged and investigation started.
Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, appreciated role of police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage.
In the meantime, Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire along Line of Control in Teetwal sector of Kupwara this morning.
“At about 0715 hours, there was firing of few rounds of RPG, 60mm mortor shells, pika and HMG”, an official said.
“The Army responded in equivalent measure. The exchange of fire lasted for around ten minutes. However, there was no loss or damage reported”, he added.
The operation against infiltrating militants along the LoC in North Kashmir’s Uri sector is going on and sources said that one militant has been shot dead so far.
A group of infiltrating militants was spotted yesterday and they were engaged leading to a gun battle in which three soldiers were injured yesterday.
The operation continued today and one militant was shot dead and the operation against the remaining infiltrators is going on.
