SRINAGAR, Nov 30: Expressing confidence that the people of Jammu & Kashmir would defeat designs to fragment their votes, PDP senior leader and Member of Parliament, Muzzafar Hussain Baig said he expected the people to give a decisive mandate to his party.
“Coalition era is over at the national level, where the people have given a decisive mandate to a single party to lead the country and we need a strong Government in Jammu and Kashmir too that could pursue the issues of the State and represent the aspirations of the people boldly at all forums both in and outside the State,” he said while addressing a public meeting at Sheeri in Baramulla constituency in the North Kashmir.
The PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti also addressed the gathering.
Baig cautioned the people about nefarious designs of certain forces in Jammu & Kashmir who are out to fragment votes and polarize the situation for their trivial political interests. “Political scenario has taken total turn around not only at the national level but also in some pivotal States like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal etc where people have given a decisive mandate to regional parties allowing them to understand and address the local issues strongly,” he said and added the people of the State in the same fashion should give an overwhelming support to the PDP.
Baig also said the people should not waste their vote by casting it in favour of those smaller groups which have emerged overnight with a specific mission to divide the electorate.
The PDP MP said the decimation of National Conference and Congress at the political scenario has changed the political scenario in the State while BJP is pursuing a negative agenda for the State and wants to harm the distinctive identity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Baig said if it comes to power PDP would not only realize the full potential of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, but would also take steps to develop Srinagar-Uri highway as a six-lane expressway. He said extension of railway line upto Uri would be also the focus area for PDP besides initiating measures for development of horticulture and tourism in the area on modern lines.
