4 militants killed in encounters

Srinagar, May 2: The troops today lost contact with their Commanding Officer and three other officers during an operation in Handwara area of Kupwara district where two militants were killed so far. In another operation in South Kashmir, security forces gunned down two more militants.

A senior officer said that they lost contact with Commanding Officer of a Rashtriya Rifles unit, Major, a soldier and Jammu and Kashmir Police officer during an operation against militants. He said that they were stuck in a house in Chanjimullah village of Handwara in Kupwara district where militants were also hiding.
The official said that they today lost contact with their four men during the operation that was launched yesterday in Handwara area of the district Kupwara after inputs about presence of militants in the area.
Special Forces have been rushed to the area and they are conducting operation against the militants, who are believed to be four in number. The official said that two militants have been killed so far but no body has been recovered as the searches of the area are yet to be conducted.

He said that the fate of the four security men including Commanding Officer is not known. The official said that troops have launched room intervention and they will eliminate the other two militants soon.
The officer said that the operation is taking time as their four men were also inside in the same area where fighting is going on.
The operation in Handwara forest was launched yesterday during which there was brief exchange of fire between militants and security forces at Waderbala. The militants fled after initial contact and security forces continued combing operation in the area and today a fresh contact was established at around 3 pm in Chanjimullah, 3 km away from Waderbala.
And two militants were killed in another gunfight in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
The encounter started this morning when joint teams of security forces launched a cordon and a search operation in Dangerpora village of Pulwama following an input about the presence of militants.
The hiding militants opened fire on the security forces during the operation which was retaliated, leading to an encounter. Two militants were killed in the operation and arms and ammunition were recovered.
