JAMMU, June 3: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today directed the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister, Ch Mohammad Ramzan to take up with the Union CAPD Minister the issue of providing ration to the State as per 2011 census.
The direction was passed during the Cabinet meeting after the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma raised the issue of ration shortage in various parts of Jammu division.
During the meeting, Sham Lal said that consumers have been facing lots of difficulties as ration is not being supplied to the State as per latest census.
“Many areas are presently reeling under acute shortage of ration because of this reason”, sources said quoting PHE Minister’s statement made during the Cabinet meeting.
He was joined by several other Ministers both from Jammu and Kashmir provinces.
Keeping in view the concern expressed by the ministers, Chief Minister directed the CAPD Minister to vociferously take up the issue with the Union Minister so that rationees of the State could heave sigh of relief.
It is pertinent to mention here that EXCELSIOR has repeatedly raised this issue and has already stressed upon the Government to ensure that people of the State get the ration as per the latest census and new ration cards are issued to the people.
Meanwhile, sources said that CAPD Minister would be writing to the Union Government in this regard within next few days.
