Sir,
Apropos the news item, “won’t hesitate to step down if the alliance with BJP doesn’t materialize, ” published in DE on May 29th the recently elected CM of J&K Mehbooba Mufti is a new ray of hope for the women community, particularly for the J&K State.
While talking to the legislators on the occasion of the Governors’ address, she expressed and exhibited her womanhood explicitly with sympathy and care for the newly introduced special bus service and women police stations and added that women folk need our immediate attention lest they should feel insecure. A Congress MLA who had raised an objection in response to the starting of women bus service, believing it to be a meager job the woman CM stamped her foot asserting her verdict, “Had you been a woman and travelled in a bus, you would have known what the women go through” and further declared that now it is felt necessary to ensure safety of the people and particularly of the females whose sanctity and security is always at stake. She alerted the Assembly that now onwards the situation like rampant harassment of women in public transport and other places needs my first priority and attention to deal with. Reiterating the fact, she expressed her heartfelt experience of her student days when she herself along with her sister Rubia had to travel by public transport while going to university. Hitting at Nawang Rigzin, she expressed her experiences, which hardly come to the mind of men folk.
The CM is very concerned about the total welfare of the educated women folk, for whom the present Government is quite ready to extend every possible aid and assistance in matters of money and material including the required trainings to venture for entrepreneurship. “They should come up with what they want,” she added. It is strongly felt that Mehbooba Ji is, really very ready for the support of the cause of women’s empowerment.
Yours etc…..
