Cloudy, wet weather continued, relief from Friday in Kashmir

SRINAGAR :  People continued to wear warm and woollen cloths as cloudy and wet weather continued in the Kashmir valley, where dry weather is predicted from June 5.
Though the minimum temperature witnessed increase at some places, including, Srinagar, the maximum temperature remained below normal in the valley.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be scattered rain or thundershowers during the next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, there is possibility of isolated rain or thundershowers on Thursday before weather will turn dry from Friday, he said.    After recording 3 mm rainfall during the night, the minimum temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was 3.5 degrees.
However, there was improvement in the mercury at Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir. It was 6.7 degrees, about a notch above normal.
At Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, the minimum temperature witnessed some improvement and settled at 10.2 degrees. However, it was still a notch below normal.
Kupwara continued to record below normal temperature. The minimum temperature at Kupwara was 7.8 degrees, more than three degree below normal, he said.
In Srinagar, sun was again playing hide and seek though the intensity of the heat was also very low, forcing people to wear warm and woollen cloths again because of winds.   However, the minimum temperature witnessed a considerable improvement of four degrees. It was 12.9 degrees, one degree above normal. But, he said the maximum temperature in the city was 25 degrees, two notches below normal yesterday.
He said there is possibility of light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 25 degrees and 12 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours.
Leh recorded 4.5 degrees minimum temperature while at Kargil it was 5 degrees against 5.8 degrees recorded yesterday.
He said the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 20 degrees and 8 degrees respectively at Leh tomorrow.
The sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures at winter capital, Jammu, would be around 38 degrees and 23 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. (AGENCIES)
