Clashes in Maisuma, body fished out

Srinagar, July 26: Clashes broke out in Maisuma locality of Srinagar city this evening and police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters after body of a youth, missing for past one week, was fished out from river Jhelum.
A group of youth pelted stones at police and CRPF near the Akhara Building in Maisuma area this evening after Police recovered body of 16-year old boy, who had disappeared on Eid.
A Police spokesman said that Owais Ahmad Fuffo son of Mohammad Ismail of Manderbagh Gawkadal had gone missing on July 18. His parents reported to police that their 16-year old son had gone missing mysteriously.
The spokesman said that locals of Shadipora in Ganderbal district found a body floating in river Jehlum and informed police. The police later fished out the body and identified it as that of missing Owais. The body was later handed over to his family. Police is investigating the case.
A pall of gloom descended entire Gawkadal area as the body reached the locality. Youth in adjacent Maisuma area came out on streets to protest against the mysterious death of the boy. They were demanding probe into the matter. Police tried to stop the youth from coming on streets, but the youth remained adamant and later pelted stones on police.
The cops tried to chase away the protesters by resorting to baton charge but the youth resisted the police action. Police fired over two dozen tear smoke shells.
