Civil Society Ganderbal raises CUK issue with DC, VC

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: In the backdrop of apprehensions about shifting of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) from district Ganderbal, the Executive Body Civil Society Ganderbal (CSG) today met with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district and Vice Chancellor CUK at their respective offices and presented a Memorandum.
CSG in a statement said that the Vice Chancellor CUK was inquired about the slow pace of construction at Ganderbal main campus. He was requested to immediately shift his office and all other faculties to main campus and start functioning from Ganderbal instead of paying huge rents at different places in Srinagar.
The Vice Chancellor agreed to the genuineness of the concerns of Civil Society and retreated that he is firm to establish Central University Ganderbal at its originally proposed site.
He said even though the MHRD has passed direction for stopping of work due to cost escalation at the Tullamula site, yet he has got the approval for finishing the under process works and are ready to shift in the later week of March.
He further said that the administration has to get the further approval from the MHRD for further starting of construction work at Ganderbal.
The statement further read that the Ganderbal residents are not satisfied with the message of Chief Minister who had said that they may have shift the university to some alternate place within the district and wished for construction at the originally designated place at Tullamula.
