UDHAMPUR, July 24: A noted local trader was seriously injured after he was shot at with a pistol by an unidentified youth near SBI in Badiyan area of the city late this evening.
A police spokesman said that the incident took place at around 8.40 pm when the victim, Rocky Gupta ( 35), son of Manohar Lal Gupta, resident of Lambi Gali, Udhampur had gone to have a look on a piece of land, which he intended to purchase. He was sitting at a tea stall near SBI. He also inquired about the plot from a few locals.
Suddenly, an unidentified youth called him outside and fired three bullets on him with a pistol and escaped from the scenes. There was hustle and bustle in the market when the incident took place and the accused escaped with ease.
Rocky raised alarm but the accused had already disappeared. The injured was rushed to District hospital and later referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu. He received three bullet injuries on thighs and lower portion of his leg.
The police rushed to the spot and started search for the accused. Rocky is noted Tobacco trader of the city. Some land issue is said to be the reason behind murderous attack on the city businessman.
