City of Temples reverberates with vocal recitals of Srinivas, Meeta

JAMMU, Feb 19: The 4th-day of ongoing 10th annual edition of SaMaPa Aalap Festival, being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Jammu, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Dept of Information & Public Relations, J&K, witnessed enchanting vocal recitals by Srinivas Joshi and Dr Meeta Pandit, who came to Jammu for the first time.
The day 4 of SaMaPa Aalap Festival featured renowned and eminent vocalist, Srinivas Joshi, at Government College for Women, Parade. Representing the Kirana Gharana, he presented the nuances of his tradition presenting Raga Miya Ke Todi commencing with Bada Khayal followed by compositions in Madhyalaya Teentaal “Aaj More Man Lago” and Drut laya Teentaal “Langer Ka Kareye”.
He also presented a composition by Pt Bhimsen Joshi “Bhawani Jagat Janani” and concluded his recital with a composition in Jhaptaal in Raga Jogiya “Rama Hari Ka Bhed Na Payo”. He was ably accompanied by Mithilesh Jha on Tabla and Dr Vinay Mishra on Harmonium.
Sarita Chauhan, Commissi-oner Secretary, State Higher Education, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Renu Goswami, Principal of GCW, Parade was also present and presented mementos to the chief guest, artists and guests.
In another concert held at Government MAM College, Dr Meeta Pandit mesmerized the audiences with her Gwalior Gharana tradition and an enchanting voice. SaMaPa Aalap is presenting a number of young students and upcoming musicians of the State in the festival. In this series brief presentations of 2 young and talents music students were presented in the concert.
This was followed by the eminent vocalist Dr Meeta Pandit who presented Raga Madhuwanti with brief Aalap, Bandish “Kripa Karo Naath” in Madhyalaya Jhaptaal, “Un So More Lagan Lage Re” in Drutlaya Teentaal followed by Bandish in Bahar “Kaliyan Sang Karat” upon the request of the audience. She concluded the recital with a Bhajan “Aao Panghat Pe”.
The festival on 20th February will feature vocal recital by Upama Roy Sharma at 11:00 am at DBN SNS Vidya Mandir, Camp Road and later at 5:00 pm at Jio Pota Ghat, Akhnoor featuring Sufi vocal by Ragini Rainu and Santoor recital by Maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori.
