JAMMU, Apr 21: Citizen’s Forum requested Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to temporarily suspend the power cabling project in Jammu region.
In a statement issued, President Citizen’s Forum RK Chadha said that this project requires 5 to 6 hour power cut daily for minimum one month in one area. In this sweltering heat, people of Jammu have to face this punishment for the sake of fulfillment of a contract with the company, he added.
“We are not against the project. We only want the project to be suspended during the summer months and the company be asked to start this work in hilly areas where people can afford 5 to 6 hours of power cut without any adverse weather conditions”, Chadha maintained.
He stated that the Chief Minister has recently said that the people were entitled to find in urban settlements a sustainable and economically viable living environment, the responsibility of which entirely rested on the shoulders of the State’s urban planners.
However, the prolonged power cuts are hell bent upon leading the citizens towards dark age, he added.
