JAMMU, Apr 24: The Centre for IT Enabled Services & Emerging Technologies (CITES&ET) at the University of Jammu today hosted Prof Dinesh Singh, Vice Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Higher Education Council, on his maiden visit to the Centre.
He was accompanied by Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; Prof Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi and Prof V B Singh of the School of Computer and Systems Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The visit commenced with an interactive session, in which Dr Guneet Singh Sudan, Director CITES&ET, articulated the Centre’s vision, mandate, and strategic roadmap. He highlighted key initiatives already undertaken, as well as those in the pipeline, aimed at positioning the Centre as a leading hub for research, innovation, start-ups, and capacity building in the IT domain.
Prof Dinesh Singh appreciated the significant strides the Centre has made in strengthening the University’s digital ecosystem. He emphasized that the Centre, through its diverse verticals, holds immense potential to lead advanced skill development in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence. He commended the ongoing efforts and underscored the importance of such initiatives in building future- ready institutions, encouraging sustained focus on interdisciplinary engagement and capacity building.
Prof V B Singh stressed the importance of active collaboration with industry partners to address real-world challenges and translate academic research into practical solutions.
Prof. Balaram Pani, in his remarks, highlighted the need to incorporate frameworks such as Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) to systematically assess progress in innovation and technology deployment.
In his concluding remarks, Prof Umesh Rai reaffirmed the University’s commitment to further strengthening the CITES&ET as a centre for innovation, digital advancement, and transformative learning. He appreciated Dr. Guneet Singh Sudan, Director CITES&ET, for his visionary leadership and praised the entire team for their dedication and impactful contributions. He emphasized that such initiatives are instrumental in aligning the University with emerging technological trends and national priorities in higher education.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr Jasleen Kaur, Coordinator, CITES&ET. Among others present on the occasion were Dr Farah Chaudhary, Coordinator, CITES&ET; Dr Satakshi Gupta (AR, IT), Narender Anthal, Vinod Parihar and all the staff of CITES&ET.
