Cigarette thief arrested

JAMMU, July 6: Police claimed here today that they have arrested a person involved in the theft of cigarettes worth Rs 50000. The stolen cigarettes have also been recovered.
On June 21, 2023, a written complaint was lodged at Police Post Rehari by one Jagdish Kumar son of Shiv Ram of Lane Number 1, House number 115, New Plot, Jammu, regarding theft of cigarettes worth Rs 50000 from his shop, a police spokesperson said.
Acting on the written complaint, police registered an FIR number 77/2023 under Sections 380/457 of the IPC at Police Post Rehari and started investigation, he said.
The spokesperson said that during the course of investigation, special teams of Police Station Pacca Danga constituted under the supervision of SP City North and led by SDPO City North Jammu, assisted by SHO Pacca Danga and incharge Police Post Rehari, rounded up a suspect identified as Jaswant Kataria @Jannu son of late Jash Pal of New Plot.
“On the disclosure of the accused, the stolen cigarettes were recovered,” he said.
Further investigation is underway, he added.
