CICE Jammu recovers over Rs 2.96 lakh in online investment fraud case

JAMMU, Feb 13: The Cyber Investigation and Coordination Centre (CICE) Jammu has recovered Rs 2,96,799 in an online investment fraud case.
Officials said a complaint was registered at Police Station CICE Jammu stating therein that the victim, a retired Government officer, had been defrauded of Rs 50 lakh through a fake online investment scheme circulated on social media and the Telegram app.
Acting promptly, they said, the police managed to put Rs 6, 15, 000 on hold during the course of investigation.
Following orders from the competent court, an amount of Rs 2, 96, 799 has been successfully recovered and credited back to the victim’s bank account, they said, adding that further recovery is expected as the investigation progresses.
The recovery was made under the supervision of SHO Police Station CICE Jammu, Albeena Malik, DySP.
Meanwhile, in a statement, police have advised the public to remain cautious of fake online investment advertisements and applications and to verify authenticity before investing money.
In case of any cyber fraud, citizens have been urged to immediately call the Cyber Helpline at 1930 or report the matter on the official portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.
