CIC, BKP, JKSAC delegations call on Governor

JAMMU, Dec 22: G.R. Sufi, State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), called on Governor N.N. Vohra, here at the Raj Bhavan today.
Mr. Sufi apprised the Governor about the efforts being made by the Commission, ever since its establishment, for enabling the implementation of the ‘Right To Information (RTI) Act 2009′ in J&K and to enhance awareness of the masses regarding their right to seek relevant information from all public offices under the RTI Act.
The Governor discussed with Mr. Sufi the measures which could be taken to further enhance transparency in the functioning of the administrative apparatus in J&K.
Ranjeet Singh, National President Bahujan Kranti Party (BKP) (Marxvad-Ambedkarvad) also called on Governor.
Mr. Singh submitted a memorandum to the Governor regarding BKP’s demands for bringing about the required constitutional and statutory provisions for improving the electoral process, particularly deleting the names of the contesting candidates from the ballot paper; election related expenditures being met by Government instead of by the contesting candidates and their political parties; elections being contested on the basis of the political party ideologies  and not in the name of any individual; grant of right to political parties to recall elected candidates; terminating recognition of political parties who fail to fulfill 75% of promises mentioned in their election manifestoes and doing away with MPLAD and Constituency Development Funds as these promote corruption.
A delegation of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) led by its President S. Gurdev Singh also called on Governor.
The delegation requested the Governor to impress upon both the Central and the State Governments for early disbursement of the package of Rs. 2000 crores for Displaced Persons; clarify criteria for one-time settlement of Displaced Persons and quantum of compensation to be calculated under the guidelines of Joint Parliamentary Committee  on Home Affairs’ Report No. 183; notify the number of DPs families to be considered for compensation; reframe the package afresh separately for each category of refugees/displaced persons taking into consideration their loss of life and property.
The Governor observed that he had taken up JKSAC’s problems with the State Government and the Union Home Minister and would do so again.
