JAMMU, Mar 29: Good Friday was celebrated with a spirit of partaking in the suffering and death of Jesus Christ by the Christian community with faith and devotion across the Jammu today.
To celebrate the day befittingly and meaningfully, St. Peter’s Catholic Community took part in the solemn `way of cross enactment’ on the city roads, while reciting the historical details of Jesus crucifixion trying to walk along with Jesus on his way to crucifixion.
A scene of Jesus carrying the deadly cross was made alive with the help of the youths and the gathering followed the scene, stopped at every station of the cross and mourned the death of their saviour.
This was followed by a long prayer service to listen to the Biblical narratives of the passion of Jesus, including the veneration of the Cross. After the passion readings the faithful Catholics received the holy Communion. The choir led the sorrowful liturgy with meaningful songs and prayers. The faithfuls who had fasted for the last 40 days at last broke their fast after the service.
Historically on Good Friday the entire Church fixes its gaze on the Cross on which the saviour Jesus Christ was crucified. Each member of the Church tries to understand at what cost Lord Jesus has won our redemption, a handout issued by St. Peter’s Catholic Church said.
It said in the Cross of Jesus people can see the magnitude of the human tragedy, the ravages of our sins and the infinite and unconditional love of God for each of his beings.
It said the Cross is glorified on this day as a sing of Christ’s resurrection and victory over sin and death. On this day every Christian is reminded to focus his life on the life of Jesus, on his sorrowful journey to mount Calvary and his death.
Though it is a sad day it is celebrated solemnly as this day brought salvation to all mankind though Jesus the Lord and therefore it is called Good Friday.
Meanwhile, Prof Bhim Singh, chief patron of National Panthers Party conveyed the message of Good Friday to the people of the world that every act of oppression and suppression anywhere in the world by any ruler shall not last long.
In his message on Good Friday he said the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Jerusalem at the hands of the rulers 2000 years ago is the everlasting example of victory of truth over evil forces.
