JAMMU, May 5: The residents of Channi Himmat today appealed the PWD Minister to create ‘Rapid Maintenance Squads’ to immediately repair any small or little damage to the roads.
The demand was raised during a meeting of the Channi Himmat Residents’ Association (CHRA) held under the chairmanship of its president, Advocate VK Grover. During the meeting, the members expressed grave concern and anguish over poor and dilapidated condition of most of the roads of colony which have been left untouched in recent exercise of maintenance undertaken by the agencies.
The residents said that even the repairs executed recently at the cost of crores of rupees lack quality of works. “One can see numerous small ditches on even main roads leading to further erosion of roads again putting financial burden on the State exchequer. It is quite evident that the agencies and the administration is sleeping over the evident damage being caused with ostensible reason of making road beyond repairs and thus putting extra burden and wastage of public money by repairing larger areas as is the practice prevailing in the department”, they said and suggested that to minimize superfluous expenditure and regular monitoring of roads’ condition a ‘Rapid Maintenance Squad’ should be created to immediately repair any small or little damage caused so that further erosion or damage is checked and the public money is saved.
Participants in the meeting resolved to appeal to Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, who is also local MLA to issue appropriate instructions to concerned authorities for immediate action so that sufferings of the residents are mitigated.
