Sir,
This refers to the news item’ Children’s Day, Gurupurab celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm'(DE, Nov15, 2016).The Children’s Day is an important day which is celebrated on November 14 every year with a lot of fun and frolic across our country. This day is celebrated to in memory of the first Prime Minister of free India, Jawahar Lal Nehru who loved children very much and whom children fondly called ‘Chacha Nehru’.On this day, children are in high spirits and various programmes and functions involving funfilled activities such as fancy dress competition are arranged in educational institutions in which children participate with enthsiasm and dress themselves as Chacha Nehru. Besides, speeches are delivered by the teachers and the students on the life and contribution of Nehru in pre and post independent India and the world at large. But there are some children who are unaware of the significance of this day.Neither do they have time to celebrate this day as they have to pick rags or beg or do some other work to support their parents or for sustaining their own life. They are the children who are born to ragpickers or beggers and who are forced to pick rags or do other menial jobs to keep themselves alive. The NGOs and the celebrities ought to spare sometime off their schedule to celebrate this day with them and give them gifts and make efforts to bring them to school and thus, improve their lot.In this way they can also assure such children that they are loved and appreciated by one and all.The schools and other institutions should arrange fund raising events on this and such other days to collect funds for such children belonging to downtrodden and deprived sections of the society.
In this way, we can bring smiles on the faces of these children, which will be a real tribute to Chacha Nehru, who inspite of being so busy as Prime Minister of this great country, always took time off his busy schedule to play and laugh with children and derived great joy and happiness.
Yours etc….
