KISHTWAR, Apr 24: Authorities here today prevented marriage of a 16 year old boy.
District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Kishtwar, Zubair Ahmed received information regarding the marriage of the minor boy in a village of Panchayat Drabshalla.
Protection Officer, Non Institutional Care (PO-NCO), Touseef Iqbal Butt was deputed by DCPO who with the help of concerned Sarpanch persuaded parents of the boy and stopped the marriage. The officials explained to the parents of the boy about harmful effects of child marriage and educated them on Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, which prohibits marriages of boys below 21 and girls below 18 years of age.
The minor was handed over to his father through the Child Welfare Committee Kishtwar and PO-NIC was directed to produce parents of the girl child before CWC Kishtwar for follow up.
