SURANKOT, Sept 30: The family members of the deceased and the local people staged protest after a male child died due to negligence of medical staff in private hospital here today.
The deceased has been identified as 15 month old Sadiq Ahmed, son of Niaz Ahmed, resident of Lower Surankot in Poonch. The child was in the grip of fever and he was brought to the private hospital being run by a senior retired Health Department officer of the area, Dr Mumtaz Hussain.
The family members alleged that child was given injection and he died within 10 minutes due to reaction at around 10.30 am. After this incident, the family members and the people got agitated, they held protest demonstration against the doctor and hospital staff. They approached police but it refused to listen to them or register a case.
Annoyed over the attitude of SHO, later, village Sarpanch Haji Mohd Aziz and other people reached there and they lodged strong protest against police and hospital staff. They also disrupted movement of traffic on the road. Then they moved to DC and SP Poonch. With the intervention of district administration, the police got the postmortem of the body conducted and a case under Section 174 CrPC was registered in this connection.
SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain said that a medical board conducted postmortem of the body of the child and a case has been registered in this connection. He said after medical report is received, appropriate action under law will be taken against the Medico.
