LEH, May 11 : Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today chaired a meeting to review preparations for the upcoming International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations in Ladakh.
The meeting focused on planning a week-long series of yoga activities across various locations in the region, culminating in the main event scheduled to be held on June 21 at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of meticulous planning and coordination for the successful conduct of the large-scale event.
He directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to undertake all necessary repair and maintenance works, including proper levelling and improvement of infrastructure at the MIMC venue to ensure smooth movement and convenience for participants.
The CS further instructed the concerned departments to assess the tentative number of participants and finalize venues for yoga activities to be conducted at various locations across Ladakh.
Special emphasis was laid on organizing parallel yoga events in Nubra, Changthang and other remote areas, while maintaining Leh as the primary focus for the main celebration.
The meeting also discussed participation from students, monks, nuns, government officials, yoga practitioners and delegations expected to attend the week-long programme and the main event on June 21.
President of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Bhikkhu Sanghasena, informed the meeting that the venue at MIMC has the capacity to accommodate approximately 7,000 to 10,000 participants and assured that adequate arrangements for public convenience would be made.
Among those who attended the meeting were Bhikkhu Sanghasena, President MIMC; Secretary, PWD, Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary; Secretary, PHE/I&FC, Shurbhir Singh; Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, Moses Kunzang; Deputy Commissioner Leh; Chief Engineer; Medical Director; and other concerned officers.
