JAMMU, Oct 2: Chief Justice, J&K High Court, Gita Mittal today appreciated efforts done by authorities of District Jail, Amphalla for the welfare of prisoners.
Participating as chief guest in a function to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Jail premises, Justice Gita Mittal in her address highlighted the contributions of Gandhiji.
Earlier, the Chief Justice inaugurated the new interview room built on modern lines and also the Prison Inmate Calling System. One Undertrial Prisoner Jatan, resident of Malapuram, Kerala made a call to his wife in Kerala during inauguration of the calling system.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the inmates of the Jail. The programme was witnessed by Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice Sindhu Sharma, DGP Prisons VK Singh, Ashok Bhan, Rtd DGP Prisons, Vinod Chaterjee Koul, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Jammu, Jawad Ahmed, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Satish Khandare, IGP Prisons, Mukesh Singh, IGP Jammu, Vivek Gupta, DIG JKR, Sushma Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr MS Lone, DIG Prisons, Tejinder Singh, SSP Jammu, Professor Sunanda Raina, Principal GMC and a large number of senior members from judiciary, police and civil administration besides jail inmates and staff.
During the program, the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi were displayed along with other videos to propagate the message of Mahatma Gandhi. Various cultural items like bhajans, folk songs, dance numbers were presented by the inmate including female inmates which received thunderous applause from the audience.
Earlier, Superintendent District Jail, Jammu in his welcome address underlined various steps being taken in the Prisons for welfare of prisoners and improving prison administration. He highlighted that the Department is making efforts towards making jails self-reliant and providing better facilities and training opportunities to the inmates.
