JAMMU, Jan 14: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, RS Chib castigated the BJP-PDP Coalition Government for not holding the Panchayat as well as Local Bodies elections on time.
He said this while addressing a largely attended meeting organized by the Block Congress Committee, Suche-tgarh, here today.
He strongly criticized the non implementation of 73rd and 74th amendment and also diluting the position of a Sarpanch by not electing him through direct Ballot.
Chib said that a Sarpanch when elected through the votes of Panchs will not be able to function effectively and appealed to the workers to elect honest and dedicated persons as Panchs and Sarpanchs, so that they can come up to the expectations of the people.
Chib blamed the BJP-PDP Govt. for their total failure in ensuring the pace of development, especially in the rural and border areas.
He said that all the major projects started by the previous Government have come to standing halt, adding that the work on four lanning of Jammu Suchetgarh (hardly 25 kms) road is totally in dilapidated condition, despite the fact that Suchetgarh village has been included in the ‘Border Tourism Circuit’.
“The work on the building of Sub Division HQ RS Pura, which started more than four years back, has been suspended, since no funds are being released for the same. The same is the fate of SDH RS Pura and Bana Singh Stadium, RS Pura,” expressed Chib. Others who spoke on the occasion were Sobha Singh, Mohinder Singh, S. Rachhpal Gill, Swaran Lal, Kanwaljit Saini (all Sarpanchs).
Advocate BS Salathia, President Bar Association, Jammu High Court also spoke on the occasion.
