JAMMU, Sept 16: Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib along with Minister of Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today laid foundation stone of additional academic block in the premises of Government Polytechnic College, Vikram Chowk.
Involving a construction cost of Rs 1 crore, the academic block is stipulated to be completed in 18 month time.
MLA East Ashok Khajuria, Secretary Technical Education Nazir Ahmed Malik, Director Technical Education S C Sawhney, Principal Neetu Maini, besides senior lecturers of the college and other staff were also present on the occasion.
Addressing students and staff after laying foundation stone, R S Chib said that it was the endeavour of the Coalition Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to create adequate infrastructure at all the educational and professional institutions for the convenience of the students.
He said that State Government has prioritized the technical education with an aim to produce professional and skilled force to meet the job market demands.
He informed that all newly opened 18 Polytechnic Colleges established in various districts have started functioning with immense response from the students in various courses.
Bhalla said that Union Government headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was keen to upgrade technical education infrastructure in the State to help the youth to get technical education as skilled manpower has greater demand in job market. He said that setting up of 18 Polytechnic Colleges in the State was a big achievement.
MLA East, Ashok Khajuria, impressed upon the teaching fraternity to impart quality education to the students so that they can become stakeholders in the development of the State.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Principal of the college said “Our vision is to provide quality education and training programmes in specific areas of engineering, Technology and Management through formal and non-formal modes of delivery”.
She said the polytechnic college was keeping pace with the changing times by designing new programmes, upgrading the curricula of existing programmes, developing and modernizing the infrastructure and organizing staff development programmes on a regular basis.
