Chhewang takes up road connectivity issue of Ladakh with Gadkari

JAMMU, July 17: To examine the reports on the state of roads in various states, a meeting was convened by Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping in his office chambers with the MPs from J&K, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and UT of Chandigarh.
Thupstan Chhewang,  MP from Ladakh had drawn the attention of the meeting by highlighting the grievances of Ladakh and stressed on as early completion of Nimo-Padum-Darcha (Chadar) road by declaring it as a National Highway.
He complained for the lack of initiation any ground work on Kargil-Padum road project even after two years of declaring it as NH301. For both these projects the MP Ladakh sought personal intervention of the Union Minister for earlier completion and commencement of work on the respective projects. Thupstan Chhewang further demanded the Minister to generate fund for widening of the Upshi-Manali National Highway, installation of bridge on Indus river to connect Aagling-Palam road which will relieve the main traffic of Leh town in general. He also stressed upon the earlier completion of Zojila Tunnel.
After taking detail notes on the depictions forwarded by the MP Ladakh the Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari assured him to consider the matter on priority bases and put forward to concern authorities.
In the meeting Nitin Gadkari decided to encourage local contractors instead of Border Road
Organization by assigning the road projects in coming days which will invigorate more quality, transparency and speedy works on the projects.
