JAMMU, Sept 24: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today announced that construction of Chenani to Sudhmahadev National Highway-244 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be completed next year.
In a series of tweets, Gadkari tagged photographs of ongoing work on the National Highway.
“Connecting India with Prosperity. The project for 16.99 kilometres two-lane Chenani to Sudhmahadev (National Highway-244) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be completed next year. #PragatiKaHighway #GatiShakti,” Gadkari said in one of tweets.
Being built at the total project cost of Rs 155.05 crore, the stretch would connect Chenani, Goha, Khellani, Kishtwar, Khanabal and also provide alternate connectivity to National Highway-244,” Gadkari said.
He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such initiatives are underway at all corners of our country and would give dynamic boost to the economy.
Chenani-Sudhmahadev stretch of the National Highway will also boost religious tourism as a large number of people visit to have blessings of Lord Shiva at Sudhmahadev and then at Mantalai.
The Government is trying to develop both spots from tourism point of view as well. Presently, tourist potential at Sudhmahadev and Mantalai couldn’t be tapped fully in view of road connectivity.
Goha-Khellani-Khanabal National Highway NH-244 linking Chenani-Sudhmahadev-Khellani-Chattroo-Khannabal will provide an alternative route of road transport, which will not only lead to ease of travel and revenue but would also be important from the security point of view.
The new National Highway was undertaken as an alternate route to existing Batote-Kishtwar highway. During adverse weather conditions, Batote-Kishtwar highway gets blocked leaving travellers stranded.
However, the under construction National Highway will remain through even during snowfall and rains.nion Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today announced that construction of Chenani to Sudhmahadev National Highway, 244 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be completed next year.
