CHENANI, July 6: Traffic on ever busy Jammu-Srinagar got paralyzed today for some time following suspension of vehicular movement in Chenani-Nashri tunnel due to a mock trial of technical snag in one of the tubes.
Even as Police authorities said that some technical snag occurred inside the tunnel this afternoon following which the tube was closed for vehicles for around an hour, IL&FS, which has been entrusted the responsibility of maintenance of the tunnel, insisted that there was no technical snag but a mock trial.
“As a part of monthly mock trial of technical snag, the tunnel was closed from 11.30 a., to 12.25 p.m, during which the vehicular traffic was stopped on both ends of the tube,”  Ashutosh Chandwar, Vice-President of IL&FS, told the Excelsior.
Due to closure of the tunnel, there was long traffic jam on the highway as convoys were moving both ways.
“Though the traffic was allowed from Nashri side after the mock trial was over, it took another half an hour to normalize the vehicular movement from Chenani end because of security check-up of the Amarnath bound vehicles, Ashutosh further said.
