JAMMU, Jan 23: Institute of Public Opinion (IPO) has urged the State Government to create a sizeable allocation for parking of vehicles and creation of an independent agency to monitor the same.
This suggestion was given by chairman IPO, Arun Kumar Gupta and its other members to Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather while presenting pre budget proposal to him recently
Talking to reporters here today along with Rajinder Motial, Rahul Sahai, Hardeep Aggarwal, the other senior members of IPO, Arun Kumar Gupta said the vehicles parking space should get top priority in the budget in view of increasing number of vehicles in the State and lack of parking facilities for them.
Mr Gupta said the IPO which is presenting the pre-budget proposals for the third time has tried its utmost to touch the interests of all segments like space for parking, adulteration, schooling, selection of teachers, pollution, open trash bins, delegation of powers to Panchayats, sports, Beti hai Anmol, new Highway from Jammu to Srinagar, Central sponsored schemes for public , Sewerage Treatment Plant, shortage of ration, medical etc.
Mr Gupta said though JDA and SDA were created 40 years back there are only parking space for 1700 vehicles in the Jammu city when over five lakh vehicles are on the road and 130 vehicles add in Jammu and more in Kashmir valley every day.
Mr Gupta said the IPO while expressing its concern over the menace of adulteration has clearly intimated in its pre-budget proposal that stringent measures be taken to check the growing adulteration in food items.
Maintaining that there is very poor standard in schools and the quality of education is very much apart both in private as well as Government schools, Mr Gupta said that IPO has shown its concern that Government schools lack basic requirements and infrastructure.
He said that there are qualified teachers in Government schools but they lack interest in teaching the students with zeal and dedication. The IPO also stressed on selection of competent people as teachers who will contribute in the growth of generations. These teachers should be given a good package but also made accountable for their job.
The increasing pollution has been another cause of concern for IPO and it stressed that this issue be looked into as setting up of cement plants and other type of factories in residential areas have caused health hazards.
Among other things IPO also stressed on delegation of powers to Panchayats for proper development of the State and due attention be paid to promotion of sports.
