Chawla-Gurkha duo lifts Veteran doubles title; Niteshi claims women’s singles title

JAMMU, Apr 30: The duo of Raju Chawla and Anil Gurkha got the better of the pair of Vivek Slathia and Romesh in above 50 veteran men’s doubles event to lift the title, while the duo of Ravinder Gupta and Dr PD Gupta bagged the veteran men’s above 60 title by defeating the pair of Balbir Jamwal and Kiran Wattal in the summit clash and in women’s singles, Niteshi Saini trounced Rashmi Kashyap to win the title in the ongoing2nd Martyrs Memorial Badminton Tournament-2018, being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association here.
Earlier, in Veteran men’s doubles above 50 semifinal, Anil Gurkha and Raju Chawla defeated Sultan Mirza and Ravinder Parihar and Vivek Slathia and Ramesh toppled Ramesh Kotwal and Ravinder Rao; in Veteran men’s doubles above 40 semis, Vivek Mehta and Sarvanan outplayed Raju Chawla and Vikas Sharma; in Veteran men’s doubles above 60 semifinal, Balbir Jamwal and Kiran Wattal prevailed over Gulzar Singh Slathia and KDS Jamwal.
Earlier, in men’s singles semifinals, Vipul Saini defeated Aesh Goswami (21-15, 21-13), while Raghav Dogra beat Sunil Bakshi (21-13, 25-23).
In Under-13 boys singles semifinals, Ayush outplayed Vaibhav and Parav defeated Bhavdeep, while in Under-13 girls singles, Snowy will lock horns with Unnati in the title clash.
In Under-17 girls singles, Rashmi Kashyap and Snowy have sealed berth in the finals, beating their rivals Stuti and Pranjal in the semifinals respectively.
