The family members, who had come from Udhampur, Bishnah, some areas of Jammu, Gurdaspur, Jallandhar and other places, assembled at Exhibition Ground, adjoining Press Club of Jammu on Friday and held protest. They were displaying the photographs of their relatives/family members who according to Kishtwar Administration, went missing during massive cloudburst incident near Machail Mata Shrine (Chashoti) last year.
They were also holding placards in their hands, depicting their demands. They held silent protest, just displaying the photographs of their dear ones. They pointed out that despite repeated assurances, the J&K Administration/Government has failed to provide death certificates and compensation/relief etc to the victim families.
Mandeep from Gurdaspur, who lost his wife- Ruby and mother-in-law in the tragedy, said that even after 10 months, the administration has failed to provide them the death certificate. He said that he had spoken to the SHO Paddar, who had told that after three months, they will get the certificate. Even the officials in the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu at Rail Head complex, Jammu and Kishtwar District Administration just giving false assurances.
Another relative, Sham Lal Sharma said that his brother and Bhabhi’s bodies were retrieved from the debris but his niece- Anjali is still missing. He visited several concerned officials but no one gave proper reply. There seems to be no accountability of any official, he regretted.
Rajesh Kumar from Jallandhar also gave the similar reply. He said if the Government is helpless, at least it should provide us the death certificate of our family members. Moreover, no relief/ compensation has been provided to the victim families so far, he added.
These families have urged the Lt Governor of JKUT, Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to provide death certificates and the compensation to the victims’ families.
