The accused was booked in case FIR number 24/2019, under Section 420, 120-B of RPC P/S Crime Branch, Jammu and the charge sheet was produced in the Court of Sub-Judge Mobile Magistrate 13 FC.
The case was registered on a written complaint lodged by Dr Gafoor Ahmed of Main Bazaar Akhnoor, Ravinder Singh Jasrotia, Rajinder Singh Andotra and Dr Syed Shayan in Crime Branch Jammu against accused Sudip Syama Chakrabarty for alluring them to arrange admission for their wards in private Medical colleges and duping them of an amount of Rs 1.53 crores by fraud and cheating.
Documentary evidences and oral statements helped establishing cheating and fraud committed by the accused, who was evading arrest and had fled abroad. Crime Branch Jammu kept on following the accused and also got issued a Look out Circular through Immigration Department. As soon as the accused Chakrabarty landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Mumbai-India, he was arrested by Crime Branch Jammu on October 24, 2019 and brought to Jammu to face the investigation. The accused was put on Police remand for investigation purpose and later remanded for judicial custody. The court rejected the bail application of the accused, observing that he is a resident of UAE and was evading his arrest since long. The objections filed also raised the facts that if the accused was granted bail the recovery from him would become difficult and the other similar elements in the society will feel encouraged.
