JAMMU, May 17: Employees Joint Action Committee (R) has threatened to come out on streets and launch joint agitation if summer timings of Government offices in Jammu Division was not changed by the State authorities within week.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, State president of the EJAC Babu Hussain Malik, Kulwant Singh, Yashpal Sharma, Farida Bano, Satish Dutta, AN Thakur and others said that this time the summer timings of the Government offices were not changed in Jammu Division. Earlier, the summer timings in Jammu were being observed from 8 am to 2 pm.
They said the temperature in Jammu crosses even 44 and 45 Degree Celsius in May- June and a few days back it had crossed 40 Degree Celsius. It is very difficult to work under intense hot weather conditions in Jammu region by the employees and workers. It is torturous for the employees here in Jammu. The office time from 10 am to 4.30 pm is not acceptable and it should be changed like the practice prevalent in J&K for the last many decades.

They further said if it is not acceptable to the Govt, 5-day working from Monday to Friday be implemented for all the offices in the Jammu region, like Civil Secretariat. They alleged exploitation of the employees and workers by the State administration. The EJAC sought urgent intervention of State Governor Satya Pal Malik into the matter.
The EJAC leaders also demanded that anomalies in pay grades of the clerical cadre be removed/ amendment be made in SRO -333 without any more delay. They sought notionally benefit with effect from January 1996 and monetarily from Feb 2003 for the cadre. They also demanded restoration of two additional increments on clearing Secretariat Assistant Examination course which has been wrongly stopped during redressal of pay grade issue vide SRO-333.
The trade unionists strongly demanded increase in Medical Allowance of the employees and pensioners from existing Rs 300 to Rs 5000 per month and regularization of daily wagers/consolidated/ contractual and Anganwadi workers.
Later, the employees assembled outside Press Club of Jammu and lodged protest against the Govt demanding immediate changing of summer timings in Govt office in Jammu Division as per old practice.
