Chamber appeals Govt to resolve transporters’ issue

JAMMU, Sept 29: Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu has appealed the Government to resolve the genuine issue of the transporters by effecting reasonable hike in fare and freight charges and save the general public from the hardships in view of the strike.
President of the Jammu Chamber, Y V Sharma who along with his other CCI members held a meeting with some representatives of the All J&K Transport Welfare Association here today issued an appeal to the State Transport department to immediately intervene into the matter in the general interest of the public and the Transport industry which is really considered as backbone of this tourist State. He said with the strike not only local commuters but a large number of tourists and Mata Vaishnodevi pilgrims will be affected.
It would have been better if the Government at its own had raised the public transport fare observing sharp hike in the prices of petroleum products. He said that the demand of the transporters was justified and Minister for Transport Ch Ramzan and Transport Commissioner should intervene immediately.
CCI president later also talked to the Secretary Transport, M A Kakroo and Transport Commissioner Sanjeev Verma who have conveyed that Government has already constituted a committee for the purpose and it will hold meeting with the representatives of the Transport Associations on Thursday to finally decide over the issue. Mr Sharma appealed both the senior officers to resolve the issue in time bound manner so that public may not suffer.
