Chain snatching, pick pocketing incidents on increase in Kathua

KATHUA, Apr 12: As Kathua police is in deep slumber the spirit of chain snatchers and pickpockets is so high that they execute frequent crimes in broad day light under their nose in full public view without any fear.
The daily incidents of chain snatching and pick pocketing have made the people especially ladies panicky who can’t dare to move alone in the town for routine work in the market.
A chain snatching incident took place yesterday noon and two more such incidents took place in broad daylight today in Kathua town.
In an unfortunate incident a woman identified as Malti Devi, resident of UP coming out from the bank after withdrawal of Rs 5,0000 at Hatli Morh here was on way to her home when a person snatched her bag and decamped with money.
She raised an alarm but it was too late to nab the bag snatcher.
In another similar incident a woman with her daughter was on way to a stationery shop in Main Bazar to purchase the books and uniform. But when she reached on stationery shop after walking just few steps she found that her bag was cut with blade and cash was taken away. The woman belongs to Khorate village. Some people offered her bus fare to reach her home. The shopkeeper said that male and female groups are active in Kathua town. Numbers of such incidents are recorded in CCTV camera when gang of pick pockets, chain and bag snatchers are coming to market for shopping. But the police is helpless to nab them and put a check on them.
