KATRA, Dec 30: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, organised an evening CME Programme (Continuing Medical Education) on Updates in Cervical Cancer .
The centre is the first in Jammu to provide all the oncological services like Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy since 2016. In addition to the cancer treatment modalities, SMVD Narayana Hospital also has advanced diagnostic imaging modalities like PET-CT scan.
The focus of the CME programme was recent advances in the management of cervical cancer and how advance imaging and radiotherapy techniques should be applied and the new challenges in this field. The role of comprehensive cancer care and its advantage in terms of minimum side effects and good cancer control were also discussed.
Eminent Chairpersons, speakers, panelists and delegates from various fields such as Radiology, Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology from various institutes like Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Care Institute & Research Centre Delhi, Government Medical College Jammu, SMGS Hospital Jammu, AIIMS Jammu, American Oncology Jammu and Gynaecology Clinicians and various medical practitioners joined the programme.
Esteemed professionals, including Dr Kasturi Lal Director UKL Medical Centre and Dr Swarupa Mitra, head Gynae & GI Oncology RGCIC New Delhi, Professor Amita Gupta Head Department of OBS and Gynae SMGS Jammu, Professor Swarn Gupta SMGS Jammu, Associate Professor Rahul Sharma GMC Jammu and Professor Shabab Angurana from AIIMS Jammu.
The conference was an academic feast for the medical professionals and postgraduates as it helped them understand the recent updated management protocols in Cervical Cancer treatment.
The keynote speaker of the evening was Dr Swarupa Mitra , Chief Gynae & GI Oncology unit RGCI-RC, New Delhi and she spoke about Brachytherapy in cervical cancer and recent advances in management. The other speakers, included Dr Tania Kakkar, who talked about management of CIN, Dr Nitin Vermani, Consultant Radiology talked about role of CEMRI in cervical cancer; Dr Vikas Roshan, Senior Consultant Radiation Oncology spoke about role of radiotherapy in CACervix – SMVD Narayana Hospital experience and Dr Rajeev Saini, Senior Consultant Medical Oncology discussed about Chemotherapy in CA cervix and recent advances including immunotherapy and targeted therapy.
Dr Rajpal Singh, Organising chairperson, said that cervical cancer is the commonest cause of female related cancer death. Dr Kasturi Lal, in his address explained the need of such activities. Dr J P Singh, Clinical Director, SMVD Narayana Hospital Katra presented vote of thanks.
