SAMBA, May 30: Rattan Lal Gupta, provincial president, National Conference (NC) Jammu today alleged that Centre has betrayed the people living along the International Border  (IB) by not fulfilling the promises made to them as still the whole lot of population is reeling under the same set of hardships which it used to face during the earlier regimes.
The senior NC leader was addressing a one day long workers conference here at Radwa village in Ramgarh area. Gupta, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that the Centre has done nothing to bail out the people living along borders from the conventional hardships that have made their lives a ‘virtual hell’. The workers conference was organized by Ashok Attri vice president, Central Zone JKNC Jammu and was also addressed by Babu Ram Paul, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Pardeep Bali, Sudager Chand and other block presidents.
Gupta said that despite promising stars and moon to people, the Centre has not taken any step to change the lives of people as villages along the border line are still under deplorable condition with provision of basic amenities still a distant dream with those responsible for the same showing lackadaisical attitude as if they have nothing to do with the same.
He said that the Centre’s phlegmatic attitude in the matter is known to all as whatever has been promised is still hanging in the lull with no chance of the same becoming a reality. “Take the example of bunkers, which were started with much fanfare but today all are lying defunct with rain water acting as spoilsport because there is no provision to make them useable after heavy rains have devastated the same”, he said adding that for sure the exchequer has been wasted lavishly in the name of these bunkers.      Senior NC leader Babu Ram Pal said that farmers are not getting irrigation water to sow their crops. He said that the problems have increased manifold in absence of a popular Government.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, provincial secretary NC said that only NC can meet the aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir and asked people to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah  to bail out J&K from the dark era.
